Accommodation / Living
A key part of the Teen Leadership Challenge is sampling university life at Stirling University!
Stirling University in one of the most unique, beautiful and safe universities in the UK.
The university accommodation is student flats - 10 young people will share a flat (single-gendered), with 2 staff members. Each young person will have their own room and have a shared kitchen & living area. The staff members will be on hand to supervise and support the young people and it will be a fantastic way for young people to be more independent.
Yes - the flats are single-gendered flats (including staff)
Yes - young people will have their own private room which has a bed, a desk and a sink. The rooms are warm, and comfortable and young people can bring photos and posters for decoration.
Yes - you can request to be in a flat with a friend! Please put this information on the young person information form
Ok...so....The Teen Leadership Challenge is all about learning independence. After the last activity of the evening, young people will go back to their flats to debrief the day and have a nighttime snack (tea, toast, fruit and biscuits). Young people can have a shower and then hang out in the shared kitchen/living area. Young people will be expected to head to their rooms to sleep between 11 - 11.30 pm.
Staff will be on hand to supervise the young people and help with any issues. We run an on-duty system where staff are awake and in a central area until 12.30 am.
Staff will be living/staying in the flat as well in case of any issues at night
Young people will be woken up around 8am. Young people need to leave the accommodation for breakfast at around 9am (they will be accompanied by our staff) and they need to be ready for the day when they leave at 9am. Young people can shower in the evening or in the morning.
Yes - all bedding is provided by the university
Unfortunately not - Phones will need to be handed to staff at night and then will be given out in the morning
Of course - young people on The Teen Leadership Challenge will be fully supervised, looked after & supported by our caring & experienced staff. Our staff will be around the young people, running activities and guiding them throughout their stay.
There will be two 'siesta periods' in the afternoon (that are around one hour each) where young people will be given the independence to go grab a coffee at the on-site cafe, have a game of footy, grab a snack from the on-site shop or hang out with friends. As it is a campus university, everything is in close walking distance and young people can only go to pre-arranged places. We will always make sure young people are safe, looked after and supported and for the vast majority of their time, they will be around our staff.
