English Language

Our English language lessons provide daily instruction from specialist English teachers. Our structured classes are designed to practice young people’s core skills including grammar, vocabulary, reading, writing and listening skills with an emphasis on improving young people’s confidence in spoken English.

Our teachers are selected for their ability to bring out the best in all campers and our interactive syllabus ensures lessons are engaging, fun and significantly improve camper’s ability.

Style of Teaching

We believe that it is critical that young people have a positive environment for learning. We make sure this happens by creating an atmosphere where it is normal to make mistakes, young people learn together, young people enjoy themselves and feel relaxed.

Our qualified teachers will teach young people the class curriculum through games, songs and activities. We make sure that young people enjoy their learning experience and have fun in the classroom environment. Our teachers constantly encourage and motivate the young people and give them individual attention.

English Levels

On the first day, each young person’s English level is assessed. This means that they will be able to learn with others who are at a similar stage.

At the end of every week, teachers re-assess each young person to see if they have made sufficient progress to move up to the next class.

Classes for Beginner Young People

Our beginner English classes use a fun, creative approach to learning. We combine traditional teaching methods with the use of activities such as:

• Games
• Songs
• Drama

One of the key aims of this class is to motivate and inspire our young people. This approach ensures young people receive individual attention from the teacher, improve conversation skills through group work and are eager to learn more.

Classes for Intermediate Young People

Our intermediate English classes help young people progress their English language skills and increase their confidence. We continue young people's development to increase their confidence in conversational English. We focus on teaching young people to be able to speak multiple sentences at a time and learn to move from basic sentence structures to more complex ones. Activities will include:

• Games
• Songs
• Producing a newsletter
• Interviewing people
• Producing a music video

Classes for Advanced Young People

Our advanced syllabus provides a successful blend of opportunities for young people to use and develop their English. Our advanced class focuses on refining young people's spoken English with an emphasis on improving their public speaking. The class will use complex English language vocabulary and is ideally suited for young people who are already comfortable with conversational English.

This class is particularly helpful for young people wishing to study at an English-speaking school or university. Young People are taught to communicate complex sentence structures and arguments. Our classes carefully combine individual and group work with creative activities such as:

• Producing a newspaper
• Debate
• Songwriting
• Planning events

English Immersion

The Teen Leadership Challenge is run entirely in English, so young people have maximum opportunity to use their new language skills with their new friends. Young People will learn just as much English outside of the classroom and will be speaking English for the entirety of their time on the Teen Leadership Challenge.
