About

The Teen Leadership Challenge is an epic & unique programme which offers young people the opportunity to make friends, develop leadership skills and have fun. There's nothing else out there like The Teen Leadership Challenge - young people getting the chance to take on challenges in a team to build life skills that will help them in their future. We want to help shape the future leaders of the world and give young people the confidence to achieve anything they put their minds to.

Programme Overview

Young People will take part in different 'challenges' in order to build skills, try new things and work with other young people

The Elective Challenge - Young people can pick their area of interest to build skills, complete projects and have fun. Elective Challenge options include film-making, sports & fitness, design & innovation, English language, health wellbeing & yoga and tennis. Young people pick one elective per week to specialise in

The Team Challenge - Young people are placed in teams of 10 young people from around the world. They spend their afternoons in the teams and take part in the epic Team Challenges! Team challenges are a set of different challenges for young people to try new things, build leadership skills, develop closed friendships and have fun.

The Event Challenge - Evenings are spent doing Event Challenges where we bring everyone together to have fun and relax (with a bit of healthy competition mixed in).

Skills Developed on The Teen Leadership Challenge

The Teen Leadership Challenge is about young people building life skills that will help them be more independent, confident, better communicators, better at working in a team and more resilient.

Teamwork

Being part of a high-performing team is really important in the modern world! At The Teen Leadership Challenge, young people are placed in teams of 10 young people from the UK and around the world. Our staff bring the team together, facilitate the team, teach them how to work together and communicate effectively and complete different challenges. All of this is done in a positive atmosphere of fun, laughter and friendship

Leadership

We want to help shape the future leaders of this world.

We want young people to learn how to be more confident, kind and effective leaders. We will help give young people the tools to work in a team, help lead a team and help overcome an array of different challenges - all whilst having lots of fun and building strong friendships.

Challenge

Giving young people challenges is a vital way for young people to overcome difficult situations, learn new skills and build resilience. The challenges we have set have been carefully designed - challenges to push young people out of their comfort zones to complete the challenges through learning new skills and building confidence in themselves. This is all done under the guidance of our staff who will make sure that each young person can achieve their own goals.

Underneath are some of the other skills that will be developed and how it will be done:

Skills Developed When  How
Goal setting  Team Challenge Each young person will set their own goals for their adventure and will be supported by our staff to achieve and surpass them
Communication  Elective Challenge, Team Challenge, Event Challenge Young people will be taught about effective communication - how to communicate your opinion in a positive way, how to communicate issues and how to work with others in a high-performing team to complete a set of epic challenges
Confidence Team Challenge, Event Challenge A key way to improve Leadership skills is to improve young people's confidence. We will praise young people for their achievements, highlight what they are amazing at and ensure they know what their strengths are. Our staff will make young people feel like they can achieve anything (with a bit of hard work) and leave The Teen Leadership Programme with greater aspirations and skills.
Public Speaking  Event Challenge, Team Challenge  Young people will be given guidance and the confidence to try and improve their public speaking skills in a safe, fun & comfortable environment.
Debriefing Team Challenge Each day, young people will be given the opportunity to debrief the day and discuss what they learnt, what they did well and what they can improve on.
Resilience Team Challenge, Event Challenge  Young people will be given lots of different challenges to complete - with different levels of challenge and skills required. The aim is for goals to be achievable but it is also a chance for young people to test themselves. Coming back from setbacks is a really important life skill for young people!
Independence  University living Young people will be given the chance to sample university life! Living in flats with others, having some (limited) free time and understanding what university life is like is a huge benefit of the Teen Leadership Challenge!
Budgeting Team Challenge, University Living Whilst all meals are catered for by the University's cafeteria, young people will be given a budget to spend on snacks for their flat. Communal living and budgeting is an important life skill! Additionally, the Entrepreneurial Challenge require some financial budgeting as well.
Communication  Whole Programme We aim to make young people fantastic communicators. Working together with others is vital in the modern world and being a fantastic communicator is key to this.
English skills Elective Challenge, Whole Programme The Teen Leadership Challenge is a perfect way for non-native English speakers to develop their English skills. Young people can choose English for the electives and the entire programme is run in English.
